On mornings when the weather is bad, here is how to find out if schools in the Gaston County area are close: Call The Gazette School Closing Phone Line at 861-7081 and press in code number 2501. The phone line will tell you about closings and delays. During inclement weather, school officials usually make a decision by 6 a.m. whether to open for the day or to delay opening. Listen to one of the area radio or TV stations for an announcement. Do not telephone the weather bureau, television stations, school officials or schools. Did you know? 17,500 lunches are served daily in Gaston County Schools cafeterias. Last year, 306,000 breakfasts and 3.1 Million lunches were served in school cafeterias. Students consumed more than 3,000,000 gallons of milk and 225,000 pizzas. The absence of any announcement means that the schools will be open as usual. The School Year is broken into six-week grading periods. Report cards are sent home each six weeks. Report Cards: Oct. 1, Nov. 12, Jan. 7, Feb. 25, Apr. 22, and Jun. 3.
